About Dr. Candice Matthews

Dr. Candice Matthews Statewide Vice Chair has undoubtedly met the high criteria required for an honorary doctorate. While an honorary doctorate is frequently viewed as the highest type of distinction a university can confer, an honorary Doctorate of Humanity is particularly awarded to persons who make significant contributions to society, such as Dr. Matthews.

Her associations with the Texas Coalition Of Black Democrats, a voter protection organization, and the Rainbow Push Coalition are among her humanitarian and philanthropic services to society. Jesse Jackson started the latter organization, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization formed by the merger of Operation PUSH and the National Rainbow Coalition.

The Rainbow Push Coalition is a multi-racial, multi-issue organization that "seeks to safeguard, defend, and win civil rights by leveling the economic and educational playing fields, as well as to promote peace and justice worldwide."

She is a Houston native who graduated from Macedonia Bible College with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, a Master of Arts in Christian Education, and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Development. Dr. Candice Matthews Statewide Vice Chair also obtained an honorary doctorate in Humanities from Esteem Bible University and currently serves as the Chairwoman of the Board of Regents for Leaders at Esteem Christian Bible University. She is now pursuing her MBA from Texas A&M University's Mays College of Business.
